Both appliques with red ink inscription: TRANSLUCENT ENAMEL ITALIAN EARLY 15TH CENT. BT OF WILLSON NOV. 1892 P. 8... .
Gauthier (op.cit.) illustrates an enamel plaque from the reliquary bust of St Donat, by Donaldino da Cividale, which resembles the present plaques in the use of colour, and the addition of flowerheads to the background.
