Lot Essay

The coffee pot was the first of the pieces to be designed and executed in 1880. The piece was presented at the Grand Prix de l'Union Centrale in that year, and won first prize in the Concours du Métal.
The service was praised for being exceptionally innovative, and in inspiration, may be said to be a herald of the Art Nouveau style, the main body of which it pre-empted by over a decade.
