Lot Essay

For a coin-goblet engraved by the same hand with a similar subject, from the Kirkby Mason Collection, now in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, see Joseph Bles, Rare English Glasses of the 17th & 18th Centuries, p. 79, pl. 22, no. 30, also illustrated by Bernard Hughes, English, Scottish and Irish Table Glass, p. 138, no. 104 and Catalogue, 'Glass at the Fitzwilliam Museum', p. 83, no. 190

The only other glass recorded with this distinctive zig-zag ornamentation would appear to be the example from the Guépin Collection, sale Christie's Amsterdam, 5 July, 1989, lot 57
