INDENTCaptain William Frederick Brown, born Launton, Oxfordshire, 1786, entered the Inniskillings as Cornet, 9th June 1803; Lieutenant, 1804; Captain 1807; at Waterloo commanded the centre squadron of the Regiment which, together with the 1st Royal Dragoons and 2nd Royal North British Dragoons, made up the 2nd or Union Brigade under Major General Sir William Ponsonby; took part in the celebrated charge of the Brigade against Count d'Erlon's corps which resulted in the capture of two eagles of the 45th and 105th Regiments, and about 2,000 prisoners; his horse was shot under him and he received a severe wound in the foot during the charge, and afterwards "received many lance wounds whilst on the ground"; the Inniskillings suffered nearly two hundred casualties that day; Captain Brown retired in 1819
