INDENTColonel Horace Powys Lane, born 1865, entered the Hampshire Regiment as Lieutenant, 1885; transferred to the King's Own Scottish Borderers that same year; to the Indian Staff Corps, 1889 and was appointed to the 3rd Regiment of Infantry, Hyderabad Contingent; Captain 1896; 3rd Regiment re-designated 96th Berar Infantry, 1903; appointed for Special Service with the Somaliland Field Force, January 1903; Major 1903, Lieut. Colonel 1910; during the Great War, served in Persia, the Persian Gulf and Mesopotamia, April 1915 to July 1916, with the Indian Expeditionary Force "D" which included the operations to relieve Kut (Russian Order of St. Anne 2nd Class; Mentioned in Despatches twice); Colonel 1917; retired 1920
