Ferdinand was the elder brother of Franz Schubert, whose works, when necessary, he passed off as his own, most famously the Deutsches Requiem. He was, however, respected in educational circles in Vienna and in the present document a report on him has been made by the composer, conductor and organist, Joseph Drechsler (1782-1852), who ran a music school in Vienna, and whose pupils also included Johann Strauss II.
