Lorenzo Cassio was active in Rome during the second half of the 19th century, and worked for the Vatican Mosaic workshop. In 1877 he executed a mosaic of the Roman Forum for the Vatican, and the present mosaic was also executed in these workshops. It reveals, however, the taste for historicising narrative, popular during the second half of the 19th century, caught in a humourous vein and vivid palette.
