Auguste-Joseph Peiffer (1832-86) specialised in allegorical and mythological sculpture, usually characterised by gracious maidens. The present bronze, Les Hirondelles, is his most celebrated example, it was first executed in marble in 1878, but was rapidly translated into bronze by Susse.
