Lot Essay

Noémie-Constant Vignon, known as Claude Vignon (1828-88), was both sculptor and author, studying for the former under Pradier. She worked on public commissions, such as the decoration on the Louvre and Tuileries. Of the exhibits she sent to the Salon, her most celebrated are those exploring the theme of the Infancy of Bacchus and the present figure appears to be related to these.
