Lot Essay
This fountain is modelled from a similar antique pentelic marble tripod fountain from the Villa Adriana at Tivoli. Which, prior to this was in the Capitole Museum in Rome and finally was acquired by the Louvre under the treaty of Tolentino, signed February 19 1797 by Pope Pius VI and Napoleon Bonaparte.

A noteable biscuit porcelain service by the Sèvres factory, included a reduced copy of the Louvre tripod. It was delivered to the Emperor in 1810 for The Tuileries.
