Lot Essay

His son, John, 2nd Earl of Ashburnham (1724-1812) was also a client of de Lamerie's workshop. A large cup and cover known as the 'Ashburnham Cup' was given to Clare College, Cambridge, three years after he was admitted. This unique survival ws recently exhibited at Paul de Lamerie, At the sign of the Golden Ball, Goldsmith's Hall, no.96.
