The case on spreading ogee-moulded base cast with formal strapwork enclosing panels of fruit and foliage, the front dial with silver Roman chapter ring with later blued steel hand and centre, subsidiary silver quarter ring below, the reverse with subsidiary foliate engraved silver countwheel rings for the quarters and hours, the foliate cast panel with winding holes for the three trains beneath a rectangular plaque engraved F G S, the removable side panels cast in a similar style with three-quarter columns to the sides on rectangular plinths and centred by a glazed arched viewing window, the movement with brass square-section double-screwed pillars, triple gut fusees with steel-capped barrels, all wheels of brass with steel arbors and pinions, later pendulum verge escapement (previously foliot balance) hour and quarter strike on two bells within the later galleried superstructure, lacking alarm train; concave moulded ebonised wood base on bun feet and with front drawer; altered and with restorations
