Lot Essay

Philip Pouncey suggested that the strongly Cortonesque nature of this drawing indicates that it dates from Ferri's time in Cortona's studio in the early 1650s. Copies of this composition are recorded: one now at Edinburgh (K. Andrews, op. cit., no. D. 1770) engraved by S. Watts as after Ferri when it was in the collection of Charles Rogers, and others in the Weld Collection and at Düsseldorf (no. 1579)
