Joseph Pryor has no specific date of birth but was dead by 1719 leaving an inventory of his goods. His wife, Grace, had children between 1676-88 and died in 1709

Pryor would certainly have bought this clock from a London maker, possibly Henry Jones, and changed the signature using a blued steel plaque. A similar clock by Pryor was advertised in Antiquarian Horology March 1964, p. 168, it shows only the rear view but the case is obviously from the same stable.The signature has had the same treatment, this time on a silvered plaque but similarly within an engraved cartouche
