Lot Essay

Busiri Vici records that the group of figures in the foreground has traditionally been attributed to Francesco Zuccarelli (1702-1788) and suggests that this collaboration may have taken place in 1724 when Zuccarelli was in Rome in connection with his commission to paint 'The Fall of the Rebel Angels' for the Duomo of Pitigliano; Busiri Vici seems, however, to have been unaware that the pendant is dated 1740 (see previous lot)
