The present panel, painted on both sides, originally formed part of the inner right wing of the altarpiece of the Chapel of Saint Agnes in the former Franziskanerkloster in Munich. Two other panels from the same altarpiece, dated 1504 and depicting 'Saint Judas Thaddeus with the donor Wilhelm von Haslang' and 'Saint Margaret with Sabina Hasleng' are in the Städtischen Galerie inm Lenbachhaus, der Gotik, X, 1960, p.90 and pls.142-3). According to Wilhelm Kücker (Die Alte Franziskanerkloster in München: Baugeschichte und Rekonstruktion, Oberbayerisches Archiv, 26, 1963, pp.68-70 and 119) the part of 'Saint Barbara' was originally placed on the right wing over the figure of 'Saint Margaret'
