Cf., Benaki, pl. xxiv, no. 389, a single plain plaque from Egypt which is the same shape as the above lot, date uncertain; and R.W.S., no. 348, a circular mirror consisting of a polished silver or electrum disc (corroded) backed by glass disc with gilded scene, dated to 2nd-3rd Century A.D. Donald Harden suggested that the decoration on this mirror was closest to Roman work of the 1st Century A.D. as seen on the series of enamel-painted cups of that date, cf., Masterpieces, p.57, no.68.
