Lot Essay

Elizabeth, only daughter and heiress of Thomas, Baron Parker, of Macclesfield, married Sir William Heathcote, 1st Bt. of Hursley on 7th April, 1720 at the Royal Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincular, Tower of London.

Christian Friedrich Zincke, born in Dresden about 1684, came to England in 1706, became a pupil of Charles Boit, the enameller and died at South Lambeth on 24th March, 1767. André Rouquet said of him that 'never was there a man before him, that managed the enamel with such ease', and in discussing the difficulties of working in that medium stated 'but such an able artist as Mr. Zincke, knows how to brak those fetters by which genius is confined...[He] has likewise been master of particular materials, without which his portraits would never have had that freedom, that freshness, and that strength, which renders them so natural and which constitutes the principal merits of his works'
