Lot Essay

The picture is described as follows in Pyne's autograph 'Picture Memoranda':
'The Port of Genoa' from the New Terrace. Extra prepared white ground not stippled. 36 x 24. The Architecture cutting into perspective by Mr Seuller. Commenced Sept. 60 in full colour. Completed 24 Mar:61. 30 days in painting.' Pyne also recorded that the picture was 'Commissioned by Mr Hooper', and added at a lated date: 'took this picture again from Mr Hooper, and spent on it 7 extra days in repainting.'
