Provenance
The above parure probably belonged to Queen Margherita (1851-1926), daughter of Prince Ferdinando of Savoy, Duke of Genoa and Elizabeth of Saxony. She married (1868) Prince Umberto, son of King Vittorio Emanuele II, and became Queen of Italy when her husband succeeded to the throne in 1878. Suites such as the above were made for official court mourning, and it is unusual to find one still so complete.
