Lot Essay

The central motif of a man walking beside a horse pulling a cart follows that found in Jan Brueghel II's Seaport (K. Ertz, Jan Brueghel der Jüngere, Freren, 1984, I, p. 236, no. 58, illustrated).
An attribution to Joseph van Bredael (1688-1739) has also been proposed.
