Lot Essay

Professor Roger Rearick, in a letter of 7 May 1990, judging from a photograph, attributes the present picture to Benedetto Caliari, 'it seems to depend from the 1583 example in the Prado, and to resemble Benedetto's parts of the Turin suite of late 1582-1583' (for which, see Pignatti, op. cit., I, p. 153, no. 269 and II, fig. 612).
