A fine copy of this,the second expedition under Professor E von Drygalski. The expedition sailed from Kiel in August 1901 for the Antarctic, discovering Kaiser Wilhelm II Land and the cone of Gaussberg. Valuable scientific results were obtained on the structure and mineral wealth of the southern continent. The Gauss returned to Europe in 1903. The lot also includes the first English translation of Drygalski's work published 1989
