second edition, 2 vols., folio (525 x 340mm), text in Latin, two hand-coloured engraved titles, arms heightened in gilt, titles printed on paper slips, 266 engraved plans and views of the towns and buildings of Holland and the Low Countries, COLOURED THROUGHOUT IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND (some light worming affecting the outer margins of a few early leaves and final quires of vol.1, not affecting text or plates, occasional light browning to margins), contemporary publishers vellum, panelled in gilt, central gilt arabesques, spines flat, tooled with rose and flower motifs, green silk ties, g.e., gauferred edges (slightly rubbed at corners), bookplate of Livingston Ludlow Liddle.
Koeman I 64;65. A fine copy of Koeman's B edition with 6 additional maps from the first Latin edition published in the same year. Blaeu's Townbooks are a monument to Dutch cartography following the great tradition of Braun and Hogenberg, Deventer and others. Complete copies particularly with contemporary colouring are rarely seen at auction. (2)
