The published Naval General Service Medal roll by Colin Message confirms William Simpson as an Ordinary Seaman aboard the Boadicea for the action of 18.9.1810, and afterwards as a Greenwich Pensioner, one of just 15 recipients of this clasp on the Admiralty roll (See P.R.O. ADM 171/2). An erroneous omission from the Douglas-Morris roll.
For the capture of the French Frigate Venus, and the recapture of the Ceylon, off the Isle of Reunion, on 18.9.1810. The Boadicea was flying the Broad Pennant of Commodore Rowley at this time, and brought about the Venus' surrender following a ten minute engagement.
