Private A. Moore was wounded during the fighting on Worcester Kopjes on 12.1.1900, a group of hills in the Northern Cape Colony, including Burnt, Pinnacle and Signal Hills, named as such after their gallant defence by the Worcesters. On the night of 11.2.1900, the entrenched Regiment was attacked by General de la Rey with a Commando of some 250 Johannesburg Police under Commandant Van Dam and some men of the Bethlehem Commando. In severe fighting the Boers gained the crests of Burnt Hill and Signals Hill, but, following counter-attacks, were driven off by the evening of the 12th. British casualties were 25 killed and 49 wounded.
