Major James Joseph Scully, who was born in October 1888, served for some 15 years in the ranks and another several years as a Warrant Officer. Commissioned in May 1931, he was advanced to substantive Major in June 1942, presumably while employed in the Pacific arena. His single entitlement to the British War Medal 1914-18 is verified in Services of British Officers 1939-45.
