D.S.M. London Gazette 11.8.1917. Recommendation states 'I am of the opinion that the crews of Motor Lighters are deserving of recognition. In view of the fact that most of these men are now being relieved of their arduous services by natives and their craft being turned over to the Military, it is considered that now is a suitable time to make awards. It is pointed out that the men in Motor Lighters had a very arduous time during the Summer of 1916 in the course of which 10 died and 48 were invalided. Of the four men recommended, two are R.F.R. and two R.N.R.'.
