Lot Essay

M.C. London Gazette 18.6.1917. Recommendation states 'For gallantry and devotion to duty. From 28 March to 12 April 1917, this Officer, as Workshops Officer to his Company, worked almost continuously to keep his tanks in fighting order. The work he performed, usually in darkness under heavy shell fire, contributed greatly to the success of the operations. His fearless example has been an inspiration to all his subordinates'.

Major Albert Moore, M.C., was born in April 1891 and was appointed a Cadet in the O.T.C., University College, Nottingham in September 1914. Subsequently commissioned into the 15th ("Bantam") Battalion, Sherwood Foresters, Moore served in France and Belgium between February 1916 and the end of hostilities, although latterly with the Tank Corps with whom he won the M.C. and gained advancement to the Temporary Rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He was invested at Buckingham Palace on 27.2.1920 - accompanying telegram refers.
