Lot Essay

D.C.M. London Gazette 17.12.1914 'For conspicuous bravery at Le Cateaux on 26 August 1914, and subsequently, in repairing equipment under heavy fire and frequently helping to run up single guns into the Infantry firing-line'.

The action at Le Cateaux is well documented in a number of contemporary sources, not least Deeds That Thrill The Empire. No less than five Victoria Crosses were won on that fateful day, three of them being awarded to Gunners.
