A LATE LOUIS XV GILTWOOD CHEVAL FIRE SCREEN
The rising rectangular panel with berried laurel cresting and foliate finial above a distressed first half 18th century gilded silver-thread and silk embroidery foliate and strapwork panel in a beaded, foliate and fluted frame, on splayed entrelac carved legs with scrolled foliate feet, the reverse stitched 'Long Gallery'
43½in. (110.5cm.) high, 27¾in. (70.5cm.) wide, 16in. (40.5cm.) deep
Provenance
Probably acquired by either Richard Lumley Savile, later 9th Earl of Scarbrough (d.1894) or John, 1st Baron Savile of Rufford (d.1896), Rufford Abbey, Nottinghamshire and by descent at Rufford to George, 3rd Baron Savile of Rufford (b.1919), sold Christie's and Knight, Frank and Rutley house sale, 11th October 1938, lot 129.
