Lot Essay
The screw schooner Gelert, 42 tons, was built for Mr R.H. Stewart by Fullerton's of Paisley in 1881. First registered at Caernarvon, she was 105.7 feet in length, with a 16 foot beam, and rated A1 by Lloyd's. Twice changing her rig during her long life and after many changes of ownership - including being a government harbour Patrol Defence Craft in the Second World War - she was presumed broken up in 1960.
