Redgate was a Nottingham artist who showed at the Royal Academy (1886-1906) and at Suffolk Street. Finding many of his subjects locally, he favoured harvest scenes, rivers, and open landscapes with cattle, although he occasionally ventured into sporting themes and even historical genre. Examples of his work are in the Castle Museum, Nottingham, and a landscape showing another view near the river Trent was sold in these Rooms, 8 February 1991, lot 136.
