Cálem, a prominent Portuguese family, produce classic vintage ports and, in certain years Colheitas, which we loosely describe as "vintage tawnies". This particular wine, of the vintage 1957 was matured in cask and bottled in 1990. The initial deep ruby changes to a palish tawny, the bouquet develops a lively tanginess. The '57 Colheita is sweet, fairly full bodied with a rich raisiny flavour; it was awarded a gold medal in the 1991 "Wine Magazine Challenge". It retails at over (50 a bottle
