FINEST AND RAREST ALSACE

Donated by M. Eric Beydon-Schlumberger

Cuvée Anne Schlumberger--Vintage 1988
Alsace. Estate-bottled: Schlumberger
This is one of the greatest Alsace SGNs (Selections de Grain Nobles). Made from the last picking of exceptionally concentrated botrytis grapes only in exceptional years, the last previous being made in 1976 - a wine reputed to have the highest-ever must weight of any Alsace wine ever recorded.
Schlumberger is the largest single domaine in Alsace and sole owners of the largest vineyard property, a magnificent contiguous slope of vines above the town of Guebwiller.
A tremendous risk was taken towards the end of the 1988 vintage. The decision was to pick the remaining over-ripe grapes on 16 November. The next day it rained, and winter set in. The juice filled one 60-hectolitre cask
1 bottle per lot
