Lot Essay

The banjo player is a recurrent theme in many of the Grande Parade compositions executed between 1952 and 1954. The final painted version of 1954 is in the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum Collection, New York (cf. Exhibition catalogue, Fernand Léger, Grand Palais, Paris, 1971-72, no. 240).
