FINE WINES FROM THE CELLARS OF HEADINGTON HILL HALL, OXFORD Sold on instruction of the joint administrators of Headington Holdings, Ltd (in administration) Recently removed from the excellent purpose-built, temperature and humidity-controlled cellars of Headington Hill Hall, Oxford, where they had been acquired over a number of years by the late Robert Maxwell on behalf of Headington Holdings, his private family company. Much of the wine was originally purchased at auction during the mid-1980's. Selection was clearly very careful, with only wines in excellent condition being purchased. All wines in this catalogue have been carefully checked and packed by Christie's experts, and are now offered for sale lying London, S.E.1 CLARET Whilst all the claret on offer is of high-quality, two points are abundantly clear from the contents of the cellar. Firstly, Mr. Maxwell's predilection for wines in magnums. Whatever his reasons, there is much logic in this. It has long been recognised that wine matures at a slower rate, and consequently has greater longevity in magnum. Secondly, the predominance in his cellar of the outstanding 1982 vintage - no less than thirty-eight top-class châteaux are represented.
