INDENTAircraftman 1st. Class James White Cumming, Aircrew, No. 144 Squadron (Hampdens) was missing, presumed killed in action when a formation of five aircraft of 144 Squadron failed to return from a search near the enemy coast, 29 September 1939; German radio stated that the aircraft had met a 'hornet's nest' of fighters and all the Hampdens had been shot down (later records show 18 of the 24 Aircrew including the C.O. of 144 Squadron were killed during this operation); this was Cumming's first mission

Pilot Officer William Anthony Saunders, Pilot, No. 21 Squadron (Blenheims) was detailed to bomb Merville aerodrome in north east France, 14 June 1940; his Blenheim was seen to be in trouble with A.A. fire and fell out of formation followed by enemy aircraft -- "fate unknown"; he was later reported missing, presumed killed in action
