INDENTGeneral Augustus Andrews, C.B., was appointed Cadet in the East India Company's Service, 1793 and became Lieutenant in the Madras Army, 1795; serving with the 27th Native Infantry, he took part in the storming and capture of Seringapatam, 4 May 1799 and was awarded #430 prize money; Captain 1801; Andrews led the 'White Mutiny' at Masulipatam, 1809 and was given the option of court martial or dismissal -- he elected to be tried but later accepted dismissal -- was soon restored to service; Major 1814; at the battle of Maheidpoor 21 December 1817, Major Andrews commanded the Madras European Regiment and led them in a bayonet charge against the enemy artillery -- 71 guns were captured on this occasion; Mentioned in Lieutenant General Sir Thomas Hislop's Desptach of 23 December; in the following year he led a party during the attack upon the fortress of Rajdier which drove in the outposts; during the siege of Malligaum, 18 - 29 May 1818, a sortie from the fort threatened the British working parties -- he collected a few men together and repulsed the attack -- during this service Major Andrews was wounded; Lieutenant Colonel 1820; (C.B. London Gazette 26th July 1823); Colonel 1829; Major General 1838 and Lieutenant General 1851; General 1855 and died three years later at Bath
