famous series of fables with moral content, Persian manuscript on buff paper, 330ff., each with 23ll. fine black naskh arranged in four columns, gold margins and paired intercolumnar lines between black rules, small headings in maroon, blue, red or gold thuluth within panels, (negligible staining in margins), opening illuminated double page with coloured arabesques and gold cartouches on blue ground, five other similar illuminated heading through the text, ff.1v.and 2r. with double page dedication in gold naskh outlined in black within clouds, (f.1 slightly loose in binding), colophon at end signed by Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Khayri al-Ansari and dated Rajab 889, illuminated floral trangular panels below, with EIGHT ILLUMINATED MINIATURES through the text from the early nineteenth century in seventeenth century Isfahan style, contemporary and probably original black morocco binding with stamped and gilt medallion, spandrels and panelled border, the doublures with similar decoupé design, (slightly scuffed, minute repairs)
