Lot Essay

The inscription can be translated 'The special minister and Ambassador of the King of England, Ronald Thomson 1296'. Sir Ronald was the British Ambassador to the Qajar court in Teheran 1879-87, succeeding his brother to the post. The date of this seal coincides with his arrival there.
