Recorked at the Château in 1986
There seems little point now in debating the relative virtues of the great fin de siècle twins, 1899 and 1900 as so few remain. However, after various tastings, the '99 Lafite at best is a delicate beauty whereas the 1900 is a magnificent, fuller, more rounded wine.
Tasting note: several, the best at the Overton Lafite tasting in 1979: lovely colour; intriguingly gamey bouquet, with the scent of old cedar; a rich, opulent mouthful.****
