Lot Essay

The painting dates from 1903 when the artist was working in Seville. There is some doubt as to whether there are two versions or if the original of 1903 was retouched later, as Lafuenta Ferrari states that he has seen an old photograph of the composition with some differences. Attached to this photograph there was a note with the provenance of a German dealer, Steinbart, who had also owned works from Zuloaga's early period.

The painting is no.92 in the artist's archives in the Zuloaga Museum in Zurmaya.
