Lot Essay

The inscription loosely translates as "censer for the altar of the Lord Guan Wang, offered by a devotee from Huaiqing Prefecture in Henan". "Guan Wang" is another name for Guandi, the Daoist God of War.
Compare the censer also dated to the fourth year of Tianqi illustrated in the Heibonsha Series, vol. 15, p.9. Cf also the exampleds dated to the 39th year of Wanli and fifth year at Chongzhen.
