Lot Essay
Roger Vandercruse (Lacroix), Maître in 1755
The form of this table has been associated with the marchand-mercier Daguerre and appears, with some modifications, in the oeuvre of various ébénistes working for him. A similar table by Claude-Charles Saunier supplied to the Château de Bellevue and with a Sèvres plaque dated 1786 would almost certainly have been delivered by Daguerre who was the sole buyer of Sèvres plaques at this date. This was sold in the Wildenstein/Ojjeh Collection, Sotheby's Monaco, 25 and 26 June 1979, lot 171. Another similar table by Martin Carlin with a pietra dura plaque and more lavish mounts was sold from the Dodge Collection in these Rooms, 24 June 1971, lot 122
A table of this model, also stamped R. LACROIX and with trellis-and-dot parquetry ground, was sold in these Rooms 9 December 1982, lot 49
