ROSSINI, Gioacchino (1792-1868). Autograph letter signed to Victor Massé, Paris, 1 September 1863, addressing Massé as Cher Confrere et Collegue, this is a letter of recommendation for a young Portuguese tenor M. Sauza who has been in turn recommended to Rossini by un ami qui j'aime tendrement, black ink, 1½ pages, duodecimo (133 x 92mm.), with autograph envelope.
Victor Massé (1822-1884) was a French composer who in 1860 became chorus master at the Paris Opéra and it is presumably in this connection that Rossini is writing to him.
