Lot Essay

Very few paintings of Venice by Van Lint are known, only four others being reproduced by Busiri Vici (op. cit., figs.181-3 and 185). Two of these are dated 1723, which suggests that the indistinct third digit of the date on the present picture is indeed a '2'
