A SPANISH RAPIER with blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to flattened diamond, the forte with central fuller on each face, iron hilt comprising a pair of asymmetrical upturned shells, arms, long slender knuckle-guard and straight quillons with trumpet-shaped tips, associated ovoidal pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip, early 18th Century; and a Spanish broadsword of 'bilbo' type, with blade of flattened hexagonal section, stamped on one face with a crowned 'R' and the royal monogram 'C.IV.', and on the other with a letter 'C' and 'T.1797', the hilt (surface rust) with cup guard drawn up at front and rear to meet the slender quillons, and with tounge-like extension joining the outside of the knuckle-guard, arms, ovoidal pommel, and spirally fluted cowhorn grip, dated 1797
