A PAIR OF GERMAN MITTEN GAUNTLETS of bright steel, each comprising a short slightly flared cuff with recessed turned edge, made in two halves hinged on the inside and with pin-catch on the outside (inner plate replaced on the left), five articulated metacarpal plates, each with a central cusp, the front plate wider and linked by a narrow knuckle-lame to a similar plate covering the bases of the fingers with gable-shaped embossing over the knuckles, the straight front edge recessed and with a half turn, and hinged thumb-defence (some plates replaced), early 16th Century
