A COMPOSITE GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK TARGET RIFLE with swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves and struck at the breech with silver-lined maker's stamp IH, a lion rampant between, flat lock with enclosed wheel engraved with a stag hunt in a landscape and with scrolls on the cock (one side-nail loose), the cock-spring with flat cover engraved with a sportsman and a building, walnut full stock carved with rococo decoration in low relief and profusely inlaid with staghorn scrolls and dots, and on the cheek-piece with a chamois, the butt further inlaid with pierced and engraved shaped brass panels (one panel of inlay missing), engraved brass mounts including indented trigger-guard, staghorn-inlaid patch-box cover, horn fore-end cap, set trigger (defective), and horn-tipped wooden ramrod, predominantly mid-18th Century
